These are pictures of the Hummingbirds that visited my yard this summer. The hummingbird that visits my area in Baltimore is the Ruby-Throated Hummingbird.  Mom and Grandma said you have to plant flowers to draw the hummers to your yard. Hummers are looking for flowers that have nectar. They also are really attracted to red flowers!!!

These are Monarch Butterfly Caterpillars that hatched in my backyard. In the picture the caterpillars  are eating on an herb called bronze fennel.  The caterpillars will spin into a chrysalis and then eventually turn into a Monarch Butterfly.

Here is a picture of a Monarch Butterfly. We had hundreds of butterflies visit us this year. We planted flowers that the monarch butterfly lay their eggs on.  The monarch will only lay eggs on milkweed plants.  The bad part about milkweeds is that they are being cut down by people to build new houses.  When we build new developments for houses and malls they bulldoze the milkweeds down. The monarch butterfly won't have a place to lay its eggs.
Also pesticides that alot of people use can harm the butterflies. We don't use harmful chemicals in our yard, we only use natural things in our yard so we don't harm the butterflies.  Last year mommy sprayed the roses with a mixture of milk to keep them from getting sick.  We think that because we didn't use bad chemicals in the yard that is why we had so many butterflies and birds this year.
